This coming Tuesday the museum will open its doors once more. We hope that soon we will also be able to organise some kind of activity for our members again.
The building has adopted the mandatory health safety measures enabling it to reopen and thus join the municipality's two libraries as active cultural facilities. The museum will be open to visitors during its regular hours, limiting access to a maximum quota and obliging users to wear masks. Also, some of its areas (on the second floor) will continue to be limited for the moment because their layout prevents minimum distances from being maintained. Those of you who have paid for the visit to Valencia on March 21, the money is in the museum waiting to be collected. Opening hours: Tuesday-Friday: 10.00am-1.00pm and 5.00pm-8.00pm Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays: 10.00am-1.00pm (Mondays closed) Our apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding, Saturday 21st March

The archaeologist Rubén Cebrian Miralles will offer us his own impressive summary of what we currently know about the prehistory of Xabia and its surroundings.
Wednesday, February 19, 19,30 h. Xàbia Museum What we refer to as Prehistory is actually the most extensive period of time in the whole history of humankind. As we now know, this era began in Africa more than two million years ago. However, in Xabia the earliest traces of humanity date back only 30.000 years. This is a tale beginning with the hunter-gatherers of the Paleolithic period and continuing right up to the end of the Bronze Age, around 3.000 years ago. The talk will be in castellano, with PowerPoint slides in valenciano and English.
The AGM of the Asociación Amigos del Museo de Xàbia will take place on Wednesday 29 January 2020, in the Auditorium of the Museum. The first call for the meeting will be at 18:30 and the second at 19:00.
20.00 - Auditorium, Museum of Xàbia - Friday 17th January
Presentation: Quaderns del Museu de Xàbia 3 (2019) La prehistòria de Xàbia i el seu entorn (The Prehistory of Xàbia and its surroundings) A revision of prehistory centred on Xàbia and its surrounding areas from the early Palaeolithic until the Bronze age - Authors Rubén Cebrián, Josep Casabó, Ximo Bolufer, Marco Aurelio Esquembre and others The cliffs along the coast of Xàbia and other neighboring towns of the Marina Alta conceal behind their sheer walls some unique structures known as the ‘pesqueres’ (fishing platforms).
These special structures treasured as part of our traditional culture are situated at the base of the cliffs just a few meters away from the sea and are almost always located in places which are extremely difficult to access. From these platforms on the cliff edge the local fisherman would make their living using a variety of techniques and instruments. This dangerous method of catching fish has been the cause of many accidents and even some deaths since it was first put on record back in the 16th century. Jake Abbott and Felipe Escolano have been documenting this unique aspect of our traditional culture for many years now. The result is a marvellous collection of photographs bringing together as one the landscape, the fishermen (peixqueres in the Valencian language) and the fish themselves. On Wednesday 18th December at 7pm in the Casa del Cable (situated in Avenida de la Marina in Javea Port) we will be visiting an exhibition of photographs entitled ‘Nits de Tinta’ (Inky Nights) showing some of the impressive work carried out by Jake and Felipe. After visiting the exhibition we plan to celebrate Christmas together with coffee and some of Javea’s traditional seasonal cakes and biscuits. Next Friday 13th December we will be celebrating the Fiesta of Santa Lucía, the patroness of light; as part of the festivities the AMUX group have organized a walk up to the Ermita to celebrate the winter solstice. When we arrive at the Ermita, there will be hot chocolate and bambas (typical Javea cakes) for everyone!
We will meet in the Plaza de la Constitución (known locally as El Buit) outside Bar L’Encant at 09.30 am. Date and Time: Wednesday 13th November 2019 at 4.30 pm
Meeting Place: at the entrance to the old cemetery by the steps (next to Silvasol) Death is the end of our life on this earth - and of course some of us hope that it is also the beginning of eternal life. This belief has always been an essential and determining foundation in cultures throughout the world. And this is why necropolises - the cities of the dead - are such special places, charged with memories and spiritual presence. The old cemetery in Xàbia has not been in use since 1989 but still retains some of the elements and structures of its nineteenth century origin. Of special note is the late-Gothic Hermitage of Santos Juanes which was converted for use as a funeral Chapel in 1817. This Chapel was excavated by archaeologists in 2010 and a series of tombs was found on top of the Glebe area together with various Valencian ceramic funerary panels from the original Chapel which have recenty been restored and reinstated in the Hermitage. On Wednesday 13th November at 4.30pm we have arranged a guided visit to the cemetery and the Santos Juanes Hermitage. You are warmly invited to join us. 9,00: Bus leaves the bus station in Avda.
